What is Bronzing, Gold Stamping, Foil Stamping?
Bronzing, also called Gold Stamping or Foil Stamping, is a process of transferring metal foil (gold, silver, laser and other colors) to the surface of fabric by heat pressing, so that the fabric presents metallic luster, gorgeous patterns or special textures, which is widely used in fashion, home textiles, footwear, packaging and other fields.
Evolution of hot stamping technology:
The early bronzing, gold stamping process was to stamp golden patterns on the surface of fabrics, but with the development of the times, the current hot stamping process is more about giving fabrics some leather characteristics through hot stamping, making them more like leather in appearance and feel. The current bronzing, gold stamping process focuses more on low-key luxury rather than the early golden glitter.
Choice of hot stamping substrate:
Our company has two main hot stamping substrates:
1. Polyester flannel, through hot stamping process, it has more leather properties. Sometimes we use hot stamping process 2 or even 3 times to increase its leather-like properties.
2. Suede, suede is more expensive than polyester flannel, but its leather-like properties will be better, and the effect of the finished product will be closer to genuine leather.

Principle of Bronzing, Gold Stamping, Foil Stamping
1. Material composition:
– Bronzing, Gold Stamping composed of PET film + release layer + color layer + metal plating + adhesive layer).
– Bronzing, Gold Stamping Plate** (metal plate or silicone plate, engraved with the required pattern).
2. Process:
– Cover the foil on the fabric, and melt the adhesive layer and adhere to the fabric surface through high temperature (about 100~180℃) and high pressure.
– After cooling, peel off the PET film, and the metal layer will be transferred to the fabric to form a shiny pattern.
Classification of hot stamping technology
1. Traditional hot stamping
– Use metal plates (copper plates, zinc plates), suitable for **flat fabrics** (such as cotton, polyester).
– Advantages: bright colors and good durability.
– Disadvantages: not suitable for elastic fabrics (easy to crack).
2. Cold hot stamping (UV hot stamping)
– Use UV glue + cold pressing process, no high temperature required, suitable for **sensitive fabrics** (such as chiffon, spandex).
– Advantages: no damage to fabrics, suitable for complex patterns.
– Disadvantages: poor wear resistance.
3. Digital hot stamping
– Personalized hot stamping is achieved through **digital printing + hot pressing**, suitable for small batch customization.
Advantages and disadvantages of hot stamping fabrics
Advantages:
– Metallic luster, improves product grade (such as dresses, luxury packaging).
– Customizable complex patterns (LOGO, patterns).
– Some hot stamping foils have **anti-counterfeiting function** (such as laser hot stamping).
Disadvantages:
– Not wear-resistant: Frequent friction makes it easy to fall off (especially traditional hot stamping).
– Poor air permeability: The metal layer covering affects the comfort of the fabric.
– Environmental issues: Some hot stamping foils contain PVC and are difficult to degrade.
Common applications
– Clothing: Dresses, trendy brand logos, sports shoes decoration.
– Home textiles: Metal line decoration of pillows and curtains.
– Packaging: Hot stamping text of luxury boxes and gift bags.
How to improve hot stamping fastness?
Choose hot stamping foil with high elastic adhesive layer (suitable for knitted fabrics).
Perform fabric pretreatment (such as coating treatment) before hot stamping.
Control temperature, pressure and time (avoid discoloration caused by over-scalding).
Post-finishing reinforcement (such as covering with a transparent protective layer).
